Each quarter, we produce Oxfam News, a 24-page magazine with news on our long-term development programs, advocacy campaigns and emergency responses. In many countries, violence against women is accepted and even encouraged. We take a look at the ways Oxfam is seeking to address this problem and achieve greater equity between the sexes. We meet some inspiring women who have transformed their lives after spending years risking violence, discrimination and HIV as commercial sex workers in Zimbabwe. We also catch up with women in rural Cambodia who are gaining the skills and confidence to play a more prominent role in their communities. And as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis continues in Darfur, we reveal the human face behind the horror.
