Project/Program: OIYP is an Oxfam International initiative managed by Oxfam Australia. The initiative supports a global network of over one thousand young leaders, focusing on building knowledge, skills and facilitating networks to create positive, equitable and sustainable change.

Evaluation methodology: The OIYP retrospective study scope included the twelve-year duration of the program. The intent was to understand Oxfam’s future work to support youth active citizenship. Methods included the OIYP program database, case study (Southern Africa) and the use of Sensemaker software.

Achievements: The program was successful in fostering individual empowerment and motivation, in addition to spurring projects that resulted in local / community change. Key aspects of the OIYP benefiting youth empowerment were (1) the Parliament/Kaleidoscope event, (2) the global nature of the program, and (3) the lasting network of Action Partners.
