Project/Program: The goal of the Combined Oxfam Gender HIV and AIDS Livelihoods Program (COGENHA) was to enhance the resilience of communities affected by HIV and AIDS. To achieve this, the program took a three-pronged comprehensive approach, integrating conventional HIV and AIDS programming with gender equality and livelihoods support activities.
Evaluation methodology: The summative evaluation scope included both phases from 2002 to 2013. Methods included a document review, field visits, focus groups and interviews. Participatory processes of ‘Most Significant Change’ stories from program participants and the sharing of initial findings with program stakeholders were also undertaken.
Achievements: The program successfully reduced the vulnerability of beneficiaries by diversifying coping strategies and building resilience at the individual, household and community level. It also increased the sustainability of program partners who were more technically and financially capable and resilient to the challenging operating environment (economic, social and political) in Zimbabwe
